Meet Marcus

Meet Marcus is a microsite that was developed as part of a hackathon, while I was a graduate student at MICA on their Information Visualization Program.

The project sends a message of social justice by utilizing data visualization + visual storytelling

I partnered with the Baltimore Housing Roundtable to create this interactive piece that tells the story of Marcus, a young man from Baltimore whose life, dreams, and future are jeopardized due to some of the harsh realities that low-income families face in Baltimore. The project sends a message of social justice by utilizing data visualization and visual storytelling. The primary goal of the project is to educate the public about some of the hardships that thousands of Baltimore low-income families face while trying to afford rent. Next, it presents the Baltimore Housing Roundtable's proposal (20/20 plan) to tackle the low-income housing problem while comparing and contrasting it to some of the current initiatives that have so far been uneffective in helping low-income families. Finally, it asks viewers to sign a petition to request the approval and funding of the Baltimore Housing Roundtable's 20/20 plan.
